Member Monday Q&A - Ruby Ruby, HESTA
As part of our 'Member Monday Q&A' campaign we will be posting a new interview every Monday with a HFMA Member, Sponsor or Partner. This week we interviewed Ruby Ruby from HESTA.
Ruby Ruby - Client Partnership Manager, Victoria – HESTA.
Name, Title and outline for your role and organisation?
My name is Ruby Ruby and I’m a Client Partnership Manager with HESTA. It gives me great pride to say that I work for a national industry super fund dedicated to the health and community services sector - people who every day go above and beyond to deliver the highest quality healthcare. In my role I enjoy connecting with and building meaningful relationships with our key partners based on trust and aligned values. By promoting our member services, including complementary education opportunities, we empower our members to better understand their super – and ultimately to have a better retirement.
How do you work with HFMA?
At HESTA, we strive to make a real difference to the financial future of every member. It’s why we choose to work with HFMA, to better support our members and our industry. We are committed to sharing our deep industry insights with HFMA, as we believe our knowledge and understanding of the health and community services sector can assist HFMA in the way it serves its membership.
I have witnessed HFMA’s transformation into the organisation it is today and commend HFMA on its passionate work to create connections and professional pathways for its members. The entire HFMA team is fabulous to work with.
What are you missing about the office? Or another challenge with current working arrangements if you are going into the office?
While I don’t miss the peak traffic or chaotic mornings full of multi-tasking (being a mum of two young boys), and am really enjoying Melbourne’s sunshine (I’d better not jinx it), there are many things I miss from not being in the office. Those quick washroom and printer trips that turn into longer, meaningful chats with colleagues I run into on the way. It’s great to sit side by side with fantastic colleagues who all share a common purpose and have a shared passion.
What are you most looking forward to doing when self-isolation ends?
I’m a ‘people’ person so I’m looking forward to seeing my friends, family, clients and colleagues in person and grabbing a coffee together. Can’t wait!
What can you offer HFMA members?
Our members deserve the best possible retirement. It’s why HESTA makes it easy for members to access advice about their super at no extra cost. By becoming a member of HESTA, you will also see some of your retirement savings invested back into the very sector within which you work, through investments in health and aged care. We’re already investing in supporting ground-breaking medical research, and addressing social challenges like affordable housing and improved dementia care.
We also stand up for gender quality. Research shows women are retiring on average with around 40% less super than men. More than 80% of our members are women, so advancing gender equality is something we care very deeply about. We’re also taking action to close the gender super gap, so that’s why we’re one of the few funds that pause insurance premiums but maintain cover for our members when they’re on parental leave. This helps our members maintain their super savings, so they can get back on track faster.
We’re proud support our members and our sector and be a gutsy advocate, standing with them for a fairer and more equal world. More than 860,000 Australians trust HESTA with their super and HFMA members too can have that peace of mind, knowing HESTA is working hard to look after their financial future.
